In the past few years Turkey stepped up the pace in completing its mega projects in fields such as transportation, defense, and energy, the purposes of these megaprojects are to make life easier for residents and visitors, as well as connecting Turkey in terms of trade and tourism to the world. These Megaprojects cost turkey over 130 billion U.S. dollars and are a part of Turkey’s 2023 vision.
Some of these Mega Projects are:
- Istanbul’s 3rd airport. When completed, Istanbul Airport will become the world’s largest international airport. spanning an area of 76,5 million square meters, Istanbul’s new airport is officially the largest infrastructure project Turkey has ever undertaken.
- The Marmaray Tunnelis a 13.5 km long undersea railway tunnel in Istanbul, Turkey, beneath the Bosporus strait, linking Kazlıçeşme, Zeytinburnu in Europe with Ayrılıkçeşmesi in Asia. The tunnel consists of two single track tunnels with three underground railway stations: Yenikapı, Sirkeci and Üsküdar.
- High-Speed Railway Line Project (Ankara-İstanbul) The Ankara-Istanbul project was one of the biggest to be implemented by Turkey’s Ministry of Transportation. The main aim was for shorter journey times along with a fast, secure, and safe way to travel away from roads reducing the time needed from 6 and a half hours to just 3.
- The Eurasia Tunnelis a road tunnel in Istanbul, Turkey, crossing underneath the Bosphorus strait. The tunnel was officially opened on 20 December 2016 and opened to traffic on 22 December 2016. The 5.4 km double-deck tunnel connects Kumkapı on the European part and Koşuyolu, Kadıköy, on the Asian part of Istanbul with a 14.6 km route including the tunnel approach roads. It crosses the Bosphorus beneath the seabed at a maximum depth of −106 meters. It is about 1 km south of the undersea railway tunnel Marmaray.
These Mega projects will play a huge role in improving Turkey’s economy while making turkey stand out from the rest of the world. Turkey has a great vision of 2023 and is letting nothing get in its way in achieving its targeted goals.
